National Disability Insurance Scheme ( NDIS )

NDIS provides financial support and services to eligible people (under the age of 65) with a disability, it is designed to help people get the support and services they need so their skills and independence improve over time.

The NDIS was legislated in 2013 , and up until March 2024, the scheme has supported more than 649,000 participants. 

Specialist Disability Accommodation ( SDA )

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (Specialist Disability Accommodation) Rules 2020 set out the framework and guidelines for the provision of Specialist Disability Accommodation under the NDIS.

The rules aim to ensure that people with significant disabilities have access to suitable accommodation that meets their needs.

SDA properties must adhere to specific design standards to ensure they are accessible and suitable for their intended occupants meanwhile NDIS participants must meet specific eligibility criteria to access SDA funding.
